The Role of the People of Ilam Province in the Eight Years of Holy Defence (1980-1988 AH)

Abstract
The Holy Defence period is one of the unforgettable and unique periods in the history of Iran; hence, the present article has examined the role of the people of Ilam province during this period. This study was conducted using a descriptive-analytical method and relying on library resources, documents, and oral history, in order to answer the question: What role did the people of Ilam province play in the eight years of the Holy Defence? The results of the research show that the people of Ilam province, including nomads, clergy, marketers, educators, students, health and medical staff, women, and so on, both in normal conditions and when the cities of the province were bombed by Iraqi aircraft, continued their lives without disrupting their economic and social activities, enduring difficulties and hardships, and with sacrifice and resistance against the invading Iraqi army, supported the Islamic Republic system and the policies of Imam Khomeini (R.A), and did not let a single particle of the country's soil fall into the hands of the Iraqi Baath regime.
