Functional Analysis of Citizens' Bus System (Case Study: Ilam City)

Abstract

The growing population has caused many problems in the cities. Some of these problems are related to inland transportation, which include challenges such as: increased travel time, environmental pollution and psychological problems; therefore, urban managers are looking for alternative systems to reduce the use of personal cars and make traffic easier and faster. Within the city, one of the available solutions is to use public transport. The desirable way of service in the public transport sector and its proper functioning can lead to the satisfaction of the citizens and the reduction of the volume of cars on the interurban roads. The importance of public transport and the physical and topographical features of ilam have doubled the importance of using intercity buses. In this descriptive-analytical study, citizens' satisfaction with ilam city bus system performance was investigated. For the purpose of this study, after preparing the questionnaire according to the statistical population, the sample size was 383 persons who were randomly asked. Data analysis and process (descriptive and inferential statistics) were performed using one-sample T-test using SPSS software. The results of this study indicate that the Ilam city bus system is not in a favorable position in terms of service and functionality and has resulted in their dissatisfaction and reduce the use of personal cars.
