A general enquiry into keeping and strengthening the self-devotion spirit and expectations from the self-devotees

Abstract

Abstract The current study taking this concept into consideration tries to investigate Ilami’s viewpoint about keeping up and strengthening the spirit of self-devotion and answers this question that what Ilami people expect from the self-devotees and their families? After probing the concept of self-devotion, its functions, how Islam regards it, and its sociological parameters, the study deals with assessing the Ilami people’s viewpoint about self-devotion spirit and what they expect from the self-devotees. The researcher collected the required data by the means of survey and questionnaire. A total of 400 questionnaires were analyzed and the findings reveal that majority of respondents (68%) thought of self-devotion spirit as good and very good while 11.8 percent showed negative viewpoint toward the concept. 82.23 percent of the respondents emphasized the role of the family in extending the self-devotion spirit by selecting the much and very much options of the responses. After family, the respondents laid stress on the role of educational system, mass media, and organizations and those responsible institutions in extending the self-devotion spirit, respectively. While admiring the performance of the self-devotees during the Holy Defense, the respondents expect the self-devotees to keep the spirit and to keep the contact with people and their viewpoints. The respondents, furthermore; expect that the socioeconomic problems of the self-devotees and their families do not prevent them from keeping the self-devotion value. The respondents realized the society’s scanty knowledge of self-devotion concept and its criteria as well as self-devotion spirit, and the weak performance of primary and secondary institutions as the main obstacles for extending the self-devotion spirit in the society.
