Investigation of Suicide Studies in Iran and Comparing it with Suicides in Darehshahr

Abstract

The main objective of this study is to reveal logical connections between studies about suicides  to achieve an overview of suicides in Iran and the secondary objective of this study is to compare the suicide status in Darehshahr with the country. Structured review population, consists of all researches published in the field of suicide in the time interval of 1380 to 1389. In the second part of this study, the secondary analysis of suicide statistics, provided by the police, were used for country wide analysis. Suicide data in Darehshahr was collected by using reverse questionnaire and by studying 704 cases of suicide attempts. Structured review of studies showed that the attempting groups have weaker coping skills than normal people. In all conducted researches, the mean depression score of attempting individuals is more than ordinary people. The main method of suicide in Iran (over 82%) is drug intoxication, 35% of attempted suicides are not resulting in death, and on average, and 25% of those people commit suicide again. Secondary analyses showed that, on average, in 1380, 35% of people who committed suicide, have survived it and 65% of suicide attempters have died. The average of suicides in the provinces of Ilam, Kermanshah, Lorestan, Hamedan, Golestan and Kohgiluyeh-Boyer Ahmad is significantly higher than the average of the rest of the provinces. Also committing suicide in young people is more than other groups.
