Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship between the personality traits and the degree of fashion consciousness based on body attitude in overweight and obese women (aged 25 to 50) in Ilam. The statistical population of this descriptive-correlational study consisted of women who were diagnosed as overweight based on body mass index (BMI) evaluation and were referred to clinical centers to determine their psychological disorders.
A total of 100 overweight women with the aforementioned characteristics were selected via convenience sampling method and were requested to complete three questionnaires, namely the Eysenck Personality Inventory (1963), Fashion Consciousness by Saffarnia et al. (2011-2012), and Fisher Body Focus Questionnaire (1970). Findings showed that there is a significant relationship between extraversion-introversion personality traits and body attitude among women in the target population at 95% confidence level. There is no significant relationship between neuroticism-stability personality traits and body attitudes. Also, the results showed that there is no significant relationship between body attitudes and fashion attitudes among women aged 25 to 50. Finally, the results showed that there was a significant relationship between individual and social characteristics (marital status, employment status, and education) and body attitude among women aged 25 to 50 years in Ilam.
